Human trafficking is modern-day slavery. It is a serious psychologically destructive crime that places its victims at great risk for situations such as murder, serious bodily injury, and serious lifelong medical conditions.
Since January 2006, the Alameda County District Attorney’s Human Exploitation and Trafficking (H.E.A.T.) Unit has achieved tremendous success with over 427 human trafficking cases charged and an 81% overall conviction rate. The H.E.A.T. Unit continues to be the State’s most prolific prosecutors of human trafficking cases.
