ASSETS
ASSETS Senior Employment Opportunities Program
Since 1969, ASSETS Senior Employment Opportunities Program has helped to train and prepare mature adults for entry or re-entry into the competitive labor market. The program is administered by the City of Oakland, Human Services Department (HSD), and offers FREE job placement and training services to Alameda County residents who are 55 or older. You can earn minimum wage while getting the training needed to make the transition to full or part-time jobs outside of the program. Eligible participants also receive individual career counseling, classroom training in job retention skills, and the services of local One-Stop career resource centers. (To be eligible, you must be 55 or older, live in Alameda County, and meet certain income guidelines.)
For more information, visits the ASSETS website.
Resource Center
The ASSETS Resource Room (open Monday through Friday 9AM to 4PM) is located in the Human Services Department (150 Frank H. Ogawa Plaza, Suite 4353) and available to adults ages 45 and older. It is affiliated with the American Jobs Centers (formerly known as One-Stop Career Centers) and funded by the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA). The Resource Room is designed to increase access and opportunity for the employment, education, training, and support services that individuals need to succeed in the labor market, particularly older adults with barriers to employment. Services are delivered by career counselors and include CalJobs (online employment service center) registration, job search, resume, and job application assistance, and assistance with accessing supportive services that help to improve daily living. All services are provided free of charge.
